    PBworks Release #588: Mesost

This week is another week of small features. Workspace admins can now move their workspaces in the network folder hierarchy from the workspaces’ settings page.

We’re also introducing a new icon for voice that’s much less calculator-y:

Other small fixes: link detection in status updates, visual issues for campus administrators, deleting the last revision, network admins moving unjoined workspaces, hiding the company information for promoted guest users, removing empty plugin categories, SSO redirection, network admin profile edits and user groups, and initial user notification.

  2. This week has been a week of bug fixes and small refinements:

    • the Files view on unjoined workspaces now prompts you to join
    • metadata filtering is no longer available to network guests
    • workspace admins can now move their workspaces in the network folder hierarchy
    • only network admins will see the network-wide Invite People button
    • for networks where users cannot create workspaces, the option is no longer presented to users
    • we removed a broken redundant search feature
  3. Today brings a new Invite People dialog at the workspace level. The new dialog has auto-complete and is much better about adding existing network users.

Other bugs we’ve fixed in the past week: better API documentation around page template usage, more items listed under Dashboard/My Starred Items, filtering by workspace on Dashboard/My Tasks, a context menu for toggling file links between download and view, a redirect loop on workspaces, and more consistent video controls between IE and other browsers.

  4. This week we’ve enhanced our search:

Now, when searching on a workspace, you can choose whether the search is limited to your current workspace or goes across the entire network.

We also fixed a bunch of bugs this week relating to: linking to files from tasks, folder navigation in the sidebar navigator, inserting links in IE, filtering tasks by assignee on calendar view, unstarring items you no longer have access to, current revision handling, plugin handling in PDF mode, better drag and drop uploading, more stable linking, canceling file renames, Google Gadgets plugins, email import of inline images, email import time zones, workspace sorting, workspace default tabs, listing folder contents, and Twitter plugin dimming.

  5. Today’s update is all about finding your stuff. First, we bring you a jazzy new interface for network search! It more clearly shows the currently applied filters and allows you quickly clear them all.

Next, we bring a box on the Workspace/Files page to let you quickly locate items in the current folder.

And finally, the issues we’ve fixed in the past week include: deleting folders that contain other folders, stability of Dashboard/Status Updates, editor icons, readability in the Workspaces/Activity list, uploading files in Firefox 5, and updating search results after a profile change.

  6. Today’s release brings a smorgasbord of usability enhancements!

First, we’ve improved the network and workspace theme selection pages to include a preview in the upper right corner:

We’ve made the rename and delete options for pages and files available in the sidebar in view mode:

We’ve added a filter in the Workspaces/People view. As you type, the list dynamically updates to show people with matching names and emails.

If you’re a network or workspace admin, you can adjust a user’s permissions from their profile page:

You can unstar items from Dashboard/My Starred Items:

We’ve made workspace icons more informative and consistent where they appear, and distinguish between normal workspaces (blue), archived workspaces (gray), and template workspaces (green):

And finally, the bugs we’ve fixed in the last week include: missing events in recent activity for some people upgrading from old GUI, slashes getting inserted in custom JavaScript plugin, status updates appearing for guest users, upload files button appearing at inappropriate times, player control positioning, page ordering in the include page plugin, tag indexing in search, upload permissions, overlapping text when inserting links, inserting links with special characters, and search snippet highlighting with quotes.

  7. Today’s release brings a handful of small interface and usability improvements. First, there’s now a prompt when browsing while not logged in:

Also, you can now click anywhere in the sidebar row to select an item, instead of only on the text as before:

    image

Next, we now remember whether you last edited in full screen mode, and will start out new pages in that mode if you did.

    image

And finally, the join workspace dialog is now dismissible like other dialogs on our site:

Other small bugs we’ve fixed in the last week include: getting a PDF of pages with embedded audio or video, and Zencoder videos on the home tab.

  8. Today’s release brings improved uploading. For a while now, we’ve had 3 different ways of uploading: 1) drag and drop, 2) Flash upload of multiple files at once, and 3) regular upload of one file at a time. However, their behavior was inconsistent. Now, no matter how you upload, you’ll see the same prompts and behavior.

Some of the bugs we’ve fixed and released in the past week include: delete icon in revision view, better spacing for the Download link on file pages, no more horizontal scrollbar in browse in Firefox, more consistent titles in the Dashboard, and a typo in our API documentation.

  9. Today’s release is more of an announcement. We’re moving to daily deploys at PBworks! Now we’ll be even more responsive to bugs and minimize UI changes.

Previously, we did deploys on Tuesdays and Thursdays that could include new features, bug fixes, or security patches (although most security fixes we patch out immediately!).

Now we have 3 types of releases:

    1. immediate - We release security patches as soon as we’re confident that they work and don’t break anything else.
    2. daily - Bug fixes will be released every business day at 5 pm Pacific time.
    3. weekly - New features and changes to the interface will only occur Mondays.
  10. With today’s release, classroom workspace administrators can now reset passwords on classroom accounts.

  11. Today’s release introduces workspace logos in the workspaces list. If you’ve uploaded a logo to represent your workspace, you can now use it to quickly locate your workspace. Workspaces with no logo will continue to use the default icon with theme colors as a background.

  12. Today’s deploy introduces full-width pages, and lets your content expand as wide as your display.

  13. Today’s release brings a quick preview of themes to the Workspaces list. Now you can identify at a glance the workspace you’re looking for.

    image

We’ve also added faceting to the Everyone tab. Now you can easily drill down by user group, last name, and custom profile fields to quickly find the person you’re looking for.

We’ve also tweaked a couple icons and fixed a handful of bugs with navigation, downloading, and logging in.
